VETRERIA RACCHETTI ALTARE

Una tra le più vecchie dinastie di vetrai altaresi è la famiglia Racchetti i cui componenti, oltre a lavorare il vetro, sono stati anche proprietari di fornaci.

I primi atti della loro attività si registrano nel XVI sec. ed è ragionevolmente ipotizzabile che la prima loro fornace utilizzata fosse quella dismessa, attorno al 1590, da un'altra famiglia di vetrai: i Pisani. Dati certi sulla esistenza della vecchia fabbrica dei Racchetti si hanno però soltanto nel 1618. (1)L'attività della vetreria veniva effettuata, nel corso dei secoli successivi, saltuariamente e con fortune alterne.

Racchettis' Fournace One among the oldest Altarist families were the Racchettis. They were both glassmakers and fournace-owners. The first records of their work dates back to the 16th century They probably used the former Pisanis' glasswork, which worked until 1906. In 1926 it was reopened with the name Società Anonima Cooperativa. The new society was successfull and supplied firms like Gancia and Martini & Rossi. In 1951, 1963 and 1964 the glasswork was sold again to other firms, and few years after 1964 it was finally closed. Its building, still standing but ruined, are very old and were declared "building of national interest" in 1993. Unfortunately nobody seems to have ineterest to study the site, which could be a very important source of informations about the ancient glass industry.
